"Guided Collaboration" for OpenGeofiction Admin Projects

The Admin team is seeking collaboration. We want to have a strong structure in place to "manage" the work of collaborators.

Our current thinking is to create a listing of proposed "projects" and let people "apply" for those projects.

Projects Listing

There are currently three types of projects available for user collaboration. Take a look at the lists and see if anything is interesting to you.

Map Projects

Project ID Project Description Map area Project Status Contractor Observations
MAP001 Ongoing for month of January, 2017, "cleanup" and "vandalism patrol" for Western Hemisphere, oceans, and "reserved" (gray color) territories. Note that this may include contacting users who have inappropriately mapped in these areas. world unassigned tbd

Wiki Projects

Wiki projects are those projects focused primarily on editing the wiki. Many of them involve building or maintain pages for the OGF: namespace - help pages, informational pages, etc. There may be a map component to some of these projects, but if so it would be minor.

WIKI001-zh Ongoing responsibility for maintaining Chinese language versions of the FAQ and About, keeping them "in sync" with the English page. available unassigned
WIKI002 Improving the "how to use JOSM" documentation (currently on the FAQ, probably needing a new OGF: namespace page). available unassigned
WIKI003 Developing and documenting standards ("best practices") for OGF "edit summaries" - the little comments that go with edits on the map. available unassigned

Requests for Proposal (RFPs)

A "Request for Proposal" is a concept from business. It is not an actual project but rather an outline for how a project might be accomplished. For example, imagine the admin team has decided that it's time for us to develop a global climate map. But we don't even know how we want to handle this project. We're not ready to assign it to someone because haven't even decided what the result of the project should look like, or what it should include. So we make a RFP (request for proposal) to see what ideas people have for how the project would be organized. Once we receive several RFPs, we take the best one, maybe change it or modify it, and then it becomes an "official" project on one of the lists above.

Important CAVEAT: the admin team is under no obligation to accept any given proposal. Invest time and energy in your proposal at your own risk.

Unsolicited proposals are welcome, but the same caveat applies.

RFP001 Develop a plan for a "USA analogue" for the OGF world. Right now there are no "superpowers" in OGF, mostly because everyone is uncomfortable with the idea of one user having so much power. What if we developed a collaborative "USA"? How would it be organized? How would we keep all the collaborators on the same page? Where would it be? We will need a detailed plan before we can create such a country. What's your plan? available unassigned

Inquiries

If you are interested in a project, please send a message to the admin team with a title including the name and project id for the project, so that we can discuss if it's a good fit for you. Please note that no one will be approved "automatically" for any project - all project participation is on an invitation basis and at the discretion of the current admin team.
