'''Lagartópolis''' (derived from [[Castellanese language|Castellanese]] ''Lagarto'' "alligator" + ''polis'' "city"; in [[Bofobundan language|Bofobundan]] it is called تَمسا ''temisa'' "alligator"; [[Lonica language|Lonica]] ''Quebin'') is a city in the [[Ardispheric Federation|Ardispherian]] federal subject of [[Departamento de Páramos (DP)|Departamento de Páramos]]. It is the second largest city in the Departamento, and the seat of the [[Comuna La Xurre, DP|Comuna La Xurre]]. It is an important agricultural and river-transport center at the original head of navigation of the Río Lagarto (although navigation now continues to the Lago Trece Templos). It is also the most important center of the [[Bofofundan-Ardispherians|Bofofundan-Ardispherian]] immigrant community, and location of the famed [[Green Mosque]].

Lagartópolis's current population is about 102,000 inhabitants, in a land area of tbd km2.

Lagartópolis is located at the original head of navigation on the Lagarto River, where it is joined by the eastward-flowing Río Sultanas, and at the northwest end of the Lago Ancho, which is more of a swamp than a lake, but which abounds in the alligators from which the river and city derive their names.
